Spectrum Analysis Set

This classroom set of spectrum tubes allows each student to observe the colored spectral lines of 10 different compounds. By placing a small amount of a compound in a flame, a distinctive color is produced. Viewing the colored flame through the spectrum tube shows each chemical's distinctive "fingerprint" as a series of differently colored bright lines. The students can assemble their own spectroscopes and use them to compare a variety of other light sources such as incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and neon lights.
